India currently sits on one confirmed medal, Jhandu Kumar’s bronze in men’s heavyweight Para powerlifting — and is placed joint 10th overall, level with Malaysia and Northern Ireland. Boxer Lovlina Borgohain remains guaranteed at least bronze from her semifinal bye, but that medal won’t be officially added to the table until her bout is actually decided.
Australia leads the overall standings with 23 medals, including 12 gold, after a dominant run in the pool. England has climbed to second on the back of strong swimming results.
Saturday was a quiet day for India on the medal front the country failed to add to its tally for a second straight day. The women’s gymnastics team finished fifth, with Protistha Samanta the standout, qualifying for the vault final on a heavily strapped leg. Boxer Sachin Siwach advanced to the pre-quarterfinals with a 4-1 win over Canada’s Keoma Al-Ahmadieh, while lawn bowls pair Rupa Rani Tirkey and Pinki stayed unbeaten with a win over Tonga. Putul Sonowal suffered his first defeat of the Games in men’s singles, losing to former world No. 1 Izzat Shameer Dzulkeple of Malaysia. In the pool, swimmers Dhakshan Shashikumar (7th, 3:58.09) and Aryan Nehra (4:00.26) both missed the cut for the men’s 400m freestyle final. India’s women’s 3×3 wheelchair basketball team — Minakshi, Reena, Laxmi and Ritu made their Commonwealth Games debut against Wales.
Elsewhere, Saturday belonged to Australia in the pool: Sam Williamson upset England’s Adam Peaty for gold in the men’s 100m breaststroke. Jersey teenager Filip Nowacki claimed a historic silver the island’s first medal since 1990 and Peaty settled for bronze. Australia also won the mixed 4x100m freestyle relay in Games-record time and completed the tournament’s first individual podium sweep in the men’s 400m freestyle behind Sam Short’s gold.

Boxing also continues, with Preeti Pawar and Aditya Pratap Yadav opening their campaigns and Jadumani Singh facing a Pakistani opponent in the second round of the men’s 55kg category. M Raja also competes in weightlifting.
Australia’s dominance in the pool has set the early tone for Glasgow 2026, and with the swimming programme continuing into Sunday, the gap at the top of the medal table is likely to keep growing before India’s stronger events athletics and weightlifting fully kick in. Host nation Scotland and Nigeria both went without a medal on Saturday, a reminder of how quickly momentum can shift session to session at these Games.

Mirabai Chanu’s final is the standout fixture of the day a genuine gold-medal opportunity that would be India’s first of the Games. Combined with Rishikanta Singh’s weightlifting final and the men’s gymnastics all-around, Sunday has a real chance to be the day India’s medal tally finally moves beyond one.
