WWE has booked CM Punk vs. Kevin Owens for the Nov. 6 episode of SmackDown from Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. SmackDown general manager Nick Aldis made the singles match official on the Oct. 23 show after hosting a sit-down interview between the two rivals. The Brooklyn episode is the final SmackDown before Crown Jewel in Riyadh on Nov. 7. Neither man is booked for that card.

The Oct. 23 SmackDown aired from Toyota Arena in Ontario, California. Aldis hosted the sit-down and announced the Brooklyn match. Punk called the meeting a waste of time and blamed Owens for the loss of the Undisputed WWE Championship. Owens said he had thought the feud ended after Money in the Bank. WWE.com confirms the match in its Oct. 23 SmackDown results.

Punk won the Undisputed WWE Championship from Sami Zayn on the July 6 Raw in Rosemont, Illinois. The new champion retained against Cody Rhodes on the first night of SummerSlam, Aug. 1 in Minneapolis. Owens had been out since an unsanctioned match against Zayn at Elimination Chamber 2025 in Toronto. On the second night of SummerSlam, the former Universal Champion returned from a neck injury and won a four-way No. 1 contender match.

The title match took place on the Aug. 21 SmackDown in Toronto. Zayn interfered and tried to hand Owens the belt, but the challenger refused to use it. After the refusal, Zayn struck Owens with it, and Punk retained with the Go To Sleep.

Zayn regained the title on the Sept. 11 SmackDown in Mexico City, with Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae at ringside. LeRae distracted the referee late in the bout, and an errant belt shot from Owens struck Punk. Moments later, Zayn hit Punk with a Helluva Kick for the pinfall.

Zayn’s first successful defense came against Owens on the Sept. 18 SmackDown. Near the finish, Punk struck Owens with the championship belt, and Zayn won with a second Helluva Kick. After the bell, Punk hit both Zayn and Owens with the Go To Sleep to close the show.

Money in the Bank on Oct. 10 at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans put both men in the same ladder match. Punk qualified by beating Gunther and Finn Bálor on the Sept. 25 SmackDown, while Owens topped Rhodes and Gargano on Oct. 2. The two rivals fought each other through much of the bout. Penta won the briefcase. On the following SmackDown, the two demanded a match, and Aldis said it would happen once both were medically cleared.

Punk vs. Owens is too big for a go-home SmackDown. Two former world champions, a title reign lost to friendly fire, a belt shot returned in kind, and a ladder match brawl add up to a marquee attraction. Crown Jewel has room on its card, and Survivor Series has three weeks of runway. WWE picked a Friday-night TV slot anyway.

The history makes the choice harder to defend. Toronto got the championship match, and Mexico City got the title change, both on SmackDown. Owens received two title shots, and both came on Friday nights. New Orleans got a brawl inside a six-way ladder match that Penta won. Every major beat between the two has landed on weekly TV or been buried inside someone else’s story.

Brooklyn deserves a big night, and Barclays Center will deliver one. The problem is the label on the show. A go-home episode exists to sell Crown Jewel, and this match is not even on Crown Jewel. Survivor Series in Houston is the stage this rivalry has earned. Any smaller platform shortchanges Owens and Punk.
