The Trade Deadline is fast approaching. This is a time when teams can add depth to their roster. The Kansas City Chiefs are buyers at the deadline, and have yet again, added another depth piece to their team. This time it’s on defense, as the New England Patriots agreed to send Josh Uche to Kansas City.

Josh Uche Trade Details

New England Patriots Acquire: 2026 6th Round Pick
Kansas City Chiefs Acquire: DE/EDGE Josh Uche

New England Patriots Side

Something seemed to be up with Josh Uche the moment the Patriots held him out of their last game. Usually, that means a player is being discussed in a trade, or is about to be sent in a trade. That turned out to be true, since not even a day later, this transaction was announced.

It’s been quite a fall for Uche with the New England Patriots, as not 2 seasons ago, Uche had 11.5 sacks on this team. Ever since that season, the Patriots used him as a rotational pass rusher, and his snap count has gone down week after week. He was clearly not a part of the Patriots’ long-term plans, so why not get an extra draft pick to help build the team?

Kansas City Chiefs Side

Chiefs

Congratulations Josh Uche, you get to ring chase with the Kansas City Chiefs. On a serious note, the Chiefs needed some depth in the pass rushing position, and Uche could be a solid rotational piece to that strong defense. Many talk about his pass-rushing abilities, but Uche is a very underrated run-stopper. He should be a nice fit on Steve Spagnuolo’s system, and it never hurts to add a player like him. The Chiefs didn’t even give up much to get Uche, and he’s on a cheap contract.

Grades For Josh Uche Trade

New England Patriots: A

Kansas City Chiefs: A+

This is a solid trade for both sides, but the Chiefs easily get the higher grade here. They got extra depth at pass rusher and did not give much value to get Uche. Heck, Uche is still pretty young at 26, and if all goes well, maybe he will sign for another year. As for the Patriots, this is not a bad deal either, as they were barely using Uche. It’s better to get some value than nothing. Well done to both sides, and hopefully it works out for both sides.
