There have been a lot of rumors that Chelsea are after Frankfurt’s star Hugo Ekitike. The Frenchman has been having a great season so far, and he would be a great addition to any team that manages to land him.
Chelsea’s interest in Ekitike doesn’t come as a surprise. A year ago, the Blues wouldn’t have considered such a move. It was a time when Ekitike was on loan from Paris Saint-Germain to Frankfurt. When the deal was made permanent, things changed for the better.
The Frenchman quickly proved himself as a lethal striker. In this Bundesliga season, Ekitike helped Frankfurt finish the league at the 3rd position. He also helped lead them to qualify for the Champions League.
During the season, Ekitike managed to score 22 goals. He also had 12 assists across all competitions. So it is understandable why Chelsea would be interested in him.
According to RMC Sport, Chelsea is the latest club to show interest in the striker. They have him high on their shortlist and might make a move for him. He, however, won’t leave for cheap. Frankfurt is estimated to demand between €80 million and €100 million to let go of the 22-year-old.
The publication reported that Chelsea aren’t the only ones interested in Ekitike. There is also some interest from Liverpool and Arsenal. It seems though that the Blues are more serious than the other two teams.
Even if the deal for Ekitike didn’t become possible, the Blues still have other options to chase. Of course, he is a great player, but there are other players who can perform just as well. So far, the English side is reported to also be interested Benjamin Šeško and Victor Osimhen.
If Chelsea managed to land the Frenchman, they would have gotten for themselves an excellent player. He is the sort of talent that can be beneficial for any team including the Blues.
His young age is also an element that makes him more interesting. His style of play is also expected to fit that of Chelsea. The question is whether the club would manage to convince him to make the move or not.
It is possible that Ekitike would want to stay a little bit longer at Frankfurt. After all, they qualified for the Champions League. Any player dreams of playing in the tournament. If Chelsea failed to qualify as well, they might not be able to convince the striker to join them.
For some reason, I believe that Chelsea won’t be able to land Ekitike. It seems more likely that a club like Liverpool would be more interesting for the player. We will have to wait and see.
