Bryson DeChambeau is once again at the top of the headlines when it comes to a major golfing tournament. The British Open was one of his best opening rounds he’s had in a very long time, and he followed it up with a great Friday. He was originally just one back of the leader and seven under par after his round concluded. That was, until, he was pulled aside and informed he was issued a two-stroke penalty for something that happened on hole five hours earlier. He will now enter Saturday five under par.

Why Was DeChambeau Issued A 2 Stroke Penalty?

DeChambeau was issued a penalty for apparently improving his lie on the fifth hole. He appeared to be settling some of the tall grass behind his ball prior to hitting his second shot.

There was seemingly nothing done that actually improved the lie of the ball and certainly nothing intentional done by DeChambeau. Still, it was determined the “infraction” was enough to set him back.

What To Know For Round 3

DeChambeau appears to be fully prepared to continue his run at the top of the British Open leaderboard. Despite the early confusion regarding whether or not he would participate following the ruling, he has stated he will move on with his weekend as planned.

DeChambeau is scheduled for a 10:30 ET tee-time and will be paired with Sam Burns. The two are both currently sitting at five under par, three behind Lucas Herbert for the lead.

End Of My Bryson DeChambeau Update Rant

DeChambeau continuing on in the British Open is absolutely the correct call. He is still in it and has a real chance at winning, despite the unfortunate penalty. He was originally the favorite after finishing his round, the two stroke penalty pushed his odds back. Scottie Scheffler is now the favorite to win the British Open.
