Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has given a slight update on his next destination if he leaves Old Trafford. The former Sporting Lisbon man has been an important part of the Red Devils since his move back in January 2020.

Manchester United Captain To Follow Former Teammates Footsteps?

Bruno Fernandes has hinted that he could explore a surprise move to Australia when his stint at Manchester United ends. The Portuguese has been a bright spark during the current period of gloom at Old Trafford and has proved to be a very successful signing for the Red Devils. The 30-year-old recently signed a contract extension on August 14, 2024, extending his stay until June 30, 2027, with an option to extend for a further year.

Fernandes has fully committed his future to Manchester United for now and has no intention of leaving. However, the Portuguese hinted at a surprise move to Australia, referencing his conversation with former teammate Juan Mata about the quality of life and the standard of football in the A-League.

“I Could Think About It,” Says Bruno Fernandes

Bruno Fernandes has been hugely captivated by Australia’s vibrant lifestyle, as his former  Spanish teammate described to him. The 30-year-old told Optus Sport: “After the videos that he [Mata] sends me about the lifestyle, about playing golf, being on the beach, the stadium, all the fans, the conditions that he has at the club and everything, I could think about it. If he’s still there living it will be an even better option because he told me he’s in love with the country, in love with the culture.”

“He’s been telling me he probably regrets not coming earlier in his career to Australia. He’s someone that you can feel how happy he is in a place, and I think, at the moment, Juan is that kind of person. He’s really happy to be there. He’s been only telling me good things. Obviously, at Christmas time, I was here with a lot of wind and cold, and he was sending me videos of the sun and him living in front of the beach – it was beautiful.”

End Of Rant

This hints at where the Manchester United captain might end up in the later parts of his career and suggests that he just might spend his prime twilight years at Old Trafford.
