Game One of the MLB World Series between the Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers wrapped up Friday night from the Rogers Center in Toronto, Ontario. An exciting pitching matchup was in store, as the visitors sent out Blake Snell, while the home team countered with Trey Yesavage. Who would crack first between the more proven veteran, boasting a 2.35 ERA this regular season, or would the rookie phenom once again step up for the fanbase? Google provided all stats below.
Yesavage struck out DH Shohei Ohtani to start the game, but it was apparent he didn’t have his best stuff. That being said, an elite arm like his at below optimal performance is still a force to be feared. The rookie battled through four innings, giving up two runs to keep the Blue Jays in the game.
Snell kept the Blue Jays scoreless up to that point, but the team rallied for two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Outfielder Darlton Varsho hit the bomb that tied it, while the Dodgers strung hits together to rally a run in the second and third innings. Credit for an RBI goes to outfielder Enrique Hernandez and catcher Will Smith for Los Angeles to this point.
The Blue Jays turned it over to the bullpen, who kept batters scoreless until the game exploded in the bottom of the sixth. Snell, who looked sharp to this point, was pulled after loading the bases. The Dodgers’ bullpen did nothing to bail them out.
Los Angeles allowed a nine-spot, including a grand slam from outfielder Addison Barger, to put the game out of reach. DH Shohei Ohtani hit a two-run homer in the seventh, but Toronto was trying to hammer the zone for outs at this point. Game One ended 11-4 in favor of the home team, exciting all of Canada.
Blue Jays fans were treated to the first 2025 postseason AB from shortstop Bo Bichette, who actually played second base in this game. Game Two is back at the Rogers Center tonight, with the starting matchup scheduled to be Kevin Gausman for the home team and Yoshinobu Yamamoto opposing. Both stars have similar impressive stats this postseason. Gausman rolls into this game with a 2.00 ERA, and is somehow outdone by Yamamamoto’s 1.83 ERA.
