Longtime Toronto Blue Jay José Bautista has been given one of the highest honors in Canadian baseball: entry into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame. Érik Bédard, Greg Hamilton, Amanda Asay, Arleene Noga, and Gerry Snyder will join Bautista in the 2025 class.

Canadian Baseball Hall Of Fame Career

For anyone who doesn’t remember the Blue Jays circa the early ’90s, José Bautista may be the star who brought the team the most success. From 2008 to 2017, he poured his heart into the field for Toronto. He holds the team single-season home runs record (54) and base-on-ball record (132).

With Toronto, he most notably played third base and right field, but he played many others. With players such as Josh Donaldson and Edwin Encarnación, amongst others, Bautista led the most successful team in over two decades to the ALDS, where he had a top-three all-time Blue Jays moment when he threw the infamous bat flip.

Bautista is also known for being a late bloomer. Traded to the Blue Jays for a player to be named later with Pittsburgh, the 27-year-old flourished upon arrival. Working with Dwayne Murphy and Cito Gaston, they unlocked the full potential of his spotty home run swing, and he never looked back. Bautista ended his career with 344 home runs and a 0.836 OPS.

Bautista’s tenacity and dedication to the game sometimes rub opponents the wrong way, but at the same time, they endeared him to the Blue Jays fans. Bautista is also known for a tussle at second base in 2016 with Ranger’s second baseman Rougned Odor, along with the bat flip, involving a rare baseball fight with fists landing.

End Of My Canadian Baseball Hall Of Fame Rant

Jose Bautista is a six-time all-star, three-time silver slugger, and two-time home runs leader. For those of a particular vintage, Bautista is the best thing that ever happened to the Toronto Blue Jays. Trailing only Carlos Delgado in home runs by a Blue Jay, there is no doubting the impact Bautista had on Canadian baseball.
