The scheduling of the game between FC Barcelona and CA Osasuna brought in a wave of controversy. First postponed due to the unfortunate death of Barcelona’s team doctor, it was moved to March 27th. Both teams tried to appeal the date. For Barca, the problem was that some of its players would not make it back on time from their national games. For Osasuna, the issue was the general schedule. They were supposed to play a second away game just a day later. In the end, while Osasuna’s match was moved, the game in question was played on March 27th.

Barcelona Vs Osasuna

Despite missing some of its top players, like Raphinha and Ronald Araujo, Barcelona managed to play a great game. They kept a clean slate while scoring three goals of their own, leaving no doubt as to which team was better throughout the match.

The first one was scored in just the 11th minute of the game. It was Ferran Torres who put the ball in the net, after an assist from Alejandro Balde. This opened up the doors for the pace of the game to speed up. Osasuna was searching for chances to either score or defend from conceding a second goal. Their efforts led to a penalty being awarded to Barcelona after Dani Olmo was fouled inside the penalty box by Osasuna’s goalkeeper, Sergio Herrera.

Herrera seemed to have redeemed himself after saving Olmo’s shot, but Osasuna’s happiness was rather short-lived. VAR quickly revealed that the penalty box was breached before the shot was taken. This led to the penalty being retaken. The second time, Olmo used the chance and the score changed to 2:0.

The third and last goal of the game happened in the 77th minute. Robert Lewandowski was not a part of the starting 11 but was subbed in during the second half. He tried to find his chance on the field but never seemed to be in the right place at the right time. The tide changed after Osasuna went on the offense. After a dangerous situation by Wojciech Szczęsny’s goal, Barcelona carried out a quick attack. It ended with Lewandowski scoring an impressive header after getting the ball from Fermin Lopez.

La Liga Standings

Thanks to the victory, Barcelona is now three points ahead of Real Madrid and seven points ahead of Atletico Madrid. The fight for the trophy seems all but over for Atletico, leaving Real and Barca as the two main contenders. So far this year Barcelona has not lost a single game and if they continue the trend, they will soar right to the top of the championship.

Lewandowski’s goal once again made him the top scorer in the Spanish league. After 27 games played, he stands at 23 goals scored. Kylian Mbappe, the man in second, has 20 goals after 26 games.

End Of My Barcelona Rant

With the end of the season getting ever closer, every point added to the tally meters. While Barcelona does have a lead, it is not big enough for them to rest on their laurels. Will Flick be able to take them to all the way to the trophy? The team’s current form seems promising, but with Real chasing them, winning is not a guarantee. The Catalan team’s next match will be against Girona on Sunday, March 30th.
