Trent Alexander-Arnold has been reported to join Real Madrid for a long time. New reports, however, reveal that Barcelona tried to sign Liverpool’s star before.
How Did Barcelona Try To Sign Trent?
According to SPORT, a report made by Cadena SER revealed that Barcelona was seriously interested in signing Trent. Despite Barcelona’s interest, their offer didn’t move forward.
Before this rejection, the player have been a wish for the Spanish side. They have been following him for years so this isn’t a new development. The club has even wanted to sign him when Xavi was still in charge and Jordi Cruyff was still the sporting director.
Barcelona Meeting With Agents
According to the same report, Deco, Barcelona’s current sporting director, has met with Trent’s agent who is his brother. This almost secret meeting didn’t prove fruitful as the deal ultimately failed.
Some of the reasons that could have been behind this failure is the club’s financial situation or the fact that Jules Kounde has been performing well so a replacement might not be needed.
A Real Madrid Move Is Possible
With Barca’s talks failing and Liverpool not being able to convince Trent to sign a new contract, the full-back is likely to leave as a free agent.
He won’t be joining Barca, but most reports are claiming that a move to Real Madrid is done. Madrid have been the ones who were most likely to convince Trent to join them.
Even Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Real Madrid are in advanced talks with Trent and his agents. It is almost imminent that fans will see Trent in Real Madrid’s jersey soon.

Trent Would Have Benefited Barcelona
If the talks between the team and Trent yielded any results, the move would have added a lot to the Catalans.
A player of his caliber will provide a lot to any team he joins. In fact, any team would be lucky to have Trent join their side.
End Of My Barcelona Rant
As a Barcelona fan, I would have loved to see Trent join the team. The fact that he is probably going to join Real Madrid might be problematic to any Spanish team.
