The Auburn Tigers will face off against the Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday evening at Jordan-Hare Stadium. It’s a crucial game for both coaches who desperately need a win to keep their hopes alive and secure their jobs.
Kentucky Struggles
The Wildcats have struggled throughout the season, but the one positive heading into this game is the performance of Cutter Boley, their redshirt freshman quarterback. Boley has racked up 1,215 passing yards, nine touchdowns, and five interceptions.
We didn’t get the win but the future is bright. Boley threw for 330 yards and 5 touchdowns. It’s only the beginning 😼 pic.twitter.com/g3l4y364uJ

Also, the Wildcats are led on the ground from Seth McGowan on 93 carries for 476 yards and seven rushing touchdowns.
On the other side of the ball, Kentucky has faced challenges, with its usual strengths becoming weaknesses. They’ve given up explosive plays on defense, and the secondary has been plagued by injuries all season, leaving them a battered, struggling unit.
Auburn Defense Is Legit
This is one of the top units in all of college football, and rightfully so. The Tigers are allowing only 673 rushing yards on the ground through eight games, an impressive number.
Auburn’s No. 5-ranked rush defense has held opponents to at least 110 yards below their average in three straight games — led by its underappreciated D-line.

One of the biggest contributors to this Tiger defense has been the play of Xavier Atkins, who leads the team in tackles and sacks and also ranks first in SEC tackles for loss.
Another chance for a win this week as they aim to go 5-4, move closer to bowl eligibility, ease the pressure on Hugh Freeze, and build momentum from last weekend’s victory over Arkansas.
Coaches Under Fire
This game is being dubbed the “Who Wants to Keep Their Coach Bowl?” as both fanbases might actually find some relief if their team loses.
The Tigers are 15-18 under Freeze in his third year, and the football gods on the plains are clearly displeased, much like the Lexington fanbase with Mark Stoops.
On the other hand, Kentucky is in a rough patch under Stoops, with the Wildcats losing 10 straight SEC home games and managing just one conference win since the start of 2024.
Message boards, media, and many across the commonwealth share the same frustrations that Tiger fans are feeling in Tiger country, and only one team can come out on top in this game. Tough times indeed.
Hugh Freeze’s chances of being fired currently sit at 73% heading into this week’s game vs Kentucky.

Well @tom_hart said "we'll see Mark Stoops and Kentucky next week at Auburn." At this point not sure Stoops still being here is a given pic.twitter.com/wIuEjglhyp

Auburn QB Situation

This week, Freeze highlighted the opportunity for open competition in the quarterback room.
With Jackson Arnold not performing at his best this season, Ashton Daniels has stepped in as the No. 2 quarterback, replacing Arnold in the Arkansas game and leading the team to a victory.
The Tigers, led by their star rusher Jeremiah Cobb, showcased their dominance on the ground last season in a 10-0 comeback win against Kentucky in Lexington.
With uncertainty at quarterback, this could be the perfect opportunity for the run game to find its rhythm, assess their performance, and aim for back-to-back SEC wins for the first time this season.
End Of My Kentucky/Auburn Rant
This weekend’s game is more than just a match. It’s a do or die situation on the plains, where only one team will emerge with a win.
The outcome will not only affect the players and the coaching staff but also the fans, who are anxiously awaiting the game’s result. The uncertainty of the post-game scenario is sure to keep both fanbases on the edge of their seats.
Lexington and Auburn are not great places to be right now if you are a coach, and another loss would only prolong the glaring problems.
