Goldberg may have retired from in-ring action, but he continues to make waves online. The overrated star is showing his ego and ignorance, as reported by WrestlePurists from his appearance on Real Talk with Mike Burke. Social media is ablaze, not taking too kindly to his thoughts on one of the best women’s wrestlers of all time, Asuka. This man lacks a grasp on reality.
Once upon a time, WCW pushed Golderberg to the moon, and it paid off financially at the time. Despite his clear lack of wrestling talent, fans were still paying to see him spear and jackhammer somebody. In a more recent vintage, WWE pushed Asuka to break his winning-streak record.
“Some girl at WWE. They did it on purpose. I have nothing against the girl, by any means, but yeah.
I was part of WCW when we were kicking their ass in the Monday Night Wars. I didn’t know what was going on at the time, I was just on one of the sides. Now, one side dissolves and the other one consumes everything, so they can treat everyone and everything the way they want.
I think there is always going to be the bird in their ass that I was part of a company where I was the champion in a very short period of time and we were beating them in the ratings.”
Wrestle Zone reports on Asuka’s answer and comments. They truly show the heart of a wrestler versus the ego of an, albeit, well-paid one-trick pony. The Empress of Tomorrow is truly unconcerned, only focusing on what’s next, and not dwelling on past success.
“I’m not bothered by it at all. What he said came from his own perspective, and that’s fine. So there’s really no need to make such a big deal out of it.”
“What really matters is opening a new era. Creating the moment that separates Before Asuka and After Asuka. Having the power to change an era. That’s where true value and beauty exist. I don’t chase records or championships. They’re the ones that come to me.”
This clarity and self assurance of Asuka makes a good role model. She even acknowledged the fact he believes these things, and that it doesn’t matter. The stab from the comment of records coming to her was pure genius.
The out-of-touch Goldberg couldn’t take a moment to recognize one of the best women wrestlers of all time? He can’t see the gap in both ability and charisma between the two of them? He actually believes WWE thinks enough of him to worry about what he did in the Attitude Era?
Asuka actually paid dues and took a difficult path that Goldberg would never survive – Earning her spot with hard work across decades of actual wrestling matches. Without theatrics, Goldberg brings no value. WWE gave him a retirement match he didn’t deserve, and he’s still whining.
Social media is largely supporting Asuka, who is confident enough not to speak ill of another in the business. Goldberg is so desperate to leave a legacy, one that didn’t turn out as envisioned after his peak with WCW. From far and wide, and lightyears away, wrestling fans are supporting the Japanese superstar.
