Arsenal have been Premiership champions three times. They have been one of the most consistent teams in the league, having finished second nine times. They have had some great teams and played some great games in the league. These are some of The Gunners’ greatest games played in the Premiership.
This was the game that sealed the 1998 Premiership title for the Gunners. Arsenal needed a win in this game to go several points ahead of Manchester Utd with just two games to play. Against Everton, they play a dispirited team that needs points to avoid relegation. On paper, Arsenal were clear favorites to win the game and were by far the better team.
During the game, Arsenal outplayed Everton and scored four goals to seal the Premiership title. The most memorable moment was when team captain Tony Adams volleyed in a fine fourth goal. At the end of the match, the celebrations began at Highbury as the Premiership title was handed to Arsenal and the trophy was paraded at Highbury.
With the FA Cup already won, Arsenal just needed to beat Manchester Utd at Old Trafford to win the Premiership and double. In this game, there were not many goals, but Arsenal had the better of it, and a single goal from Wiltord put them 1-0 up in the second half. It was a lead they would never let slip, as they ran out 1-0 winners to secure another Premiership title, but this time at Old Trafford. In their final home game of the season, they beat Everton and then lifted the Premiership title at Highbury.
The last and final Premiership game played at Highbury was that of Arsenal vs. Wigan. A carnival atmosphere before the game saw bands play and red tape cover the pitch. In many respects, Arsenal needed to win this game to be sure of Champions League qualification, with Spurs close to them in the league.
Wigan were able to get ahead in the game, only for Thierry Henry to step in for Arsenal. A hat-trick from him sealed a 4-2 victory for The Gunners in this final game, with Henry also the final player to score at the stadium. This sparked joyous celebrations among the team’s faithful as the team qualified for the Champions League.
This match was not the most amazing Arsenal performance in history. They made history by beating Leicester City 2-1 at Highbury to become the first Premier League team to go a season unbeaten. The Gunners were already champions before this match, and had to come from behind against Leicester to secure a win that made them the first invincibles. When this match ended, the team celebrated title glory and a historic undefeated league season in what was the greatest moment of Arsene Wenger’s reign.
Arsenal have finished second in the Premier League three seasons running. So, there’s no doubting this current Gunners side has the potential to win the title, but injuries undermined their challenge last season. A lack of strength in depth up front and a consistent goalscorer were evident weaknesses during the 2024/2025 campaign.
t seems Arsenal might have remedied those weaknesses with a £192.6 million spending spree this summer, so far. Noni Madueke, Martin Zubimendi, and Viktor Gyokeres have been their biggest signings of the summer. Gyokeres and Madueke are two signings that considerably strengthen the club up front.
With Gyokeres leading the forward line and Arsenal’s defensive strength, the Gunners could have a genuine chance of Premiership glory next season if they can avert too many injuries. They are currently the bookmakers’ second favorites to win the Premier League next season after Liverpool. The Gunners faithful will likely expect some form of trophy win next year, with the club investing as much as it has in new players.
The greatest Arsenal games in the Premiership above are some of the most fondly remembered by Gunners fans. Two games were ones in which the league title was at stake, and they also lifted the Premiership trophy after the Leicester City game. The Gunners bid farewell to Highbury after an enthralling match against Wigan. They have yet to win the Premier League at the Emirates, and now seems to be the time for Arteta to deliver a title triumph for the Gunners after six seasons at the helm.
