Shiyazh Pete, the talented left tackle from New Mexico State, has committed to the University of Kentucky football team. This is a huge win for the Wildcats, as Pete brings a wealth of experience and skill to the table. He’s a 6’8″, 320-pound lineman with over 1,800 career snaps and 31 starts under his belt. Pete was ranked as the 114th overall player in the transfer portal class, and 13th among offensive tackles by 24/7Sports.
Nebraska – took an official visit to Nebraska on January 8, 2025, indicating strong interest from the Cornhuskers.
Michigan – The Wolverines were also in the running, with Pete considering their offer before ultimately choosing Kentucky.
Vanderbilt – The Commodores were seen as a potential landing spot, given Pete’s connections with former New Mexico State teammates and coaches who transferred to Vanderbilt.
The addition bolsters Kentucky’s transfer class to the sixth overall class in the 24/7Sports rankings, and fourth in the SEC. Pete’s commitment is a significant boost to the Wildcats transfer class, which has already seen several key additions. He’s the fifth new face on the offensive line, joining Joshua Braun, Alexander Wollschlaeger, Wallace Unamba, and Evan Wibberley.
With Pete on board, the Wildcats’ offensive line is looking more formidable by the day. He’s expected to start immediately at left tackle, bringing much-needed stability and depth to the position. Pete’s arrival is also a testament to the hard work of Kentucky’s coaching staff, particularly offensive line coach Eric Wolford, who has been instrumental in rebuilding the team’s front line.
Overall, Shiyazh Pete’s commitment is a major coup for Kentucky football, and his presence will undoubtedly make the team more competitive in the SEC.
