The New England Patriots have officially agreed to trade WR Kayshon Boutte to the Houston Texans. In exchange for the 24-year-old wideout, the Patriots are receiving safety Jaylen Reed and a seventh-round pick in the 2028 draft. Tom Pelissero was the first to report this trade.
Boutte is a young receiver who was drafted in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL draft. He has three years of experience in the league, all of which came with the Patriots.
Boutte spent his college career with the LSU Tigers. He spent three years there, accumulating over 1,700 total receiving yards and 18 touchdowns.
Boutte has been stuck in the middle of the Patriots depth chart his whole career. He has back-to-back 500-yard seasons, with his career-high mark of 589 coming in 2024.
Boutte has nine career touchdowns in the NFL, all of which have come in the last two seasons. He had six just last year.
After playing just five games in his rookie season, he has played a total of 29 regular-season games over the previous two years.
Boutte had one of his best performances in the NFL against the Texans last season during the 2026 playoffs. He has five catches for 75 yards and a touchdown. In fact, Boutte has played Houston two times in his career, and he has found the endzone each time.
The Texans needed to make this move due to the recent injury to Jayden Higgins, their promising young receiver.
The Texans have been searching for help ever since the injury became known. They signed veteran wideouts Sterling Shepard and Zay Jones this past week, but their ceiling to actually help the team is severely limited.
Boutte gives the Texans a boost at a position that they were suddenly very thin at. They will be getting Tank Dell back after some really rough injury luck, but who knows how he will look.
Overall, the Texans needed to make this trade to be confident in the receiver group they are putting out on the field this season. Boutte is a serviceable addition who will help the Texans overcome some of the concerns they may have had entering 2026.
