The Heat are eyeing Morant as they seek to boost their playoff chances ahead of the trade deadline. With a strong culture and defensive prowess, they could help him thrive despite challenges he has faced this season.
It also could depend on whether the NBA clears them to use Terry Rozier’s contract. Rozier’s large $26.6 million expiring contract goes a long way to matching Morant’s $39.4 million figure without sacrificing multiple rotation players.
Morant and shooting guard Anthony Edwards as a dynamic duo backcourt would be electric, and the benefits of having someone like him in terms of visibility are undeniable. The problem is his salary, which is $39 million.
To acquire Morant, the Timberwolves would have to lose important pieces that could make the team worse. Power forward Julius Randle is better than him.
After the announcement of Morant’s possible availability, some observers claimed that the Kings need to be watched on this matter. As a reminder, Sacramento would still be looking for a point guard of De’Aaron Fox’s caliber.
The Kings do not have the assets to acquire any win-now players, considering they do not have players to support them. That is why they need to rebuild, developing stars as well as a supporting cast.
