Who were the best golfers of the 2000-2009 decade? There were four or five golfers who had the best of the majors and were consistently ranked in the top 10 of the PGA Tour rankings. These were the great golfers of the early 21st century.

Tiger Woods

Woods was comfortably the best player in the majors during the 2000-2009 period. This was particularly the case in the opening few golf seasons, when he dominated the majors to an extent few, if any, players had before him. From 2000 to 2001, he won all four majors as part of the Tiger Slam. Two further majors would follow in 2002.

Woods was the top-ranked golfer for most of the 2000-2009 period and broke golfing records. He won 13 of his 15 majors, one during the 2000s, which is just over a quarter of the major titles from that decade. He took some time out from golf in 2009 to address marital issues, and could not regain his golfing dominance when he returned.

Phil Mickelson

Phil Mickelson was one of the closest players to Woods on the PGA Tour during the 2001-2009 decade. he often finished in the top five of the majors, and in 2004, won his first major at the Masters. Since then, he has won a further two Masters titles. He also won a PGA Championship in 2005 and was among the most consistent players.

Ernie Els

Els was one of the most consistent players on the PGA Tour during 2000-2009, and his record in the majors is one of the best of the non-US players. He has won four majors, including the Open Championship in 2002. He was also close to winning two Masters titles, having finished second twice. Twice during the 2000-2009 decade, he was the European Tour Player of the Year.

Vijay Singh

Singh is one of the few players of the 2000-2009 decade to have topped the PGA Tour Rankings. He won two majors during the decade, including the PGA Championship and The Open Championship. Singh won the FedEx Cup in 2008.

Pádraig Harrington

Of the European players, Harrington was one of the best on the European Tour. During 2007 and 2008, Harrington was in great form and won three majors. He was also twice the European Tour Player of the Year.
