Since losing the World Heavyweight Championship back in June, Jey Uso has not quite been himself. His goal is to do whatever it takes to recapture the title, but after failing to win both the King of the Ring tournament in June and the fatal four-way match at Clash in Paris, it has become more of an obsession. Uso has shown a much different side in recent weeks, and it could potentially lead him down a darker path.
After seemingly being on the same page with his twin brother Jey and helping him attack Roman Reigns, Jimmy Uso would do the unthinkable at SummerSlam in August of 2023. During the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship contest, after Jey hit Reigns with the Uso Splash and seemingly had the match won, Jimmy would pull his twin brother out of the ring and deliver a superkick to him.
After being tossed back into the ring by Jimmy, Jey would suffer a spear through a table from Reigns, leading to a successful title defense for the Tribal Chief. During the following episode of SmackDown, Jimmy would attempt to explain his actions.
If you would’ve beaten Uce at SummerSlam, you would’ve became the Tribal Chief, and then what? What happens to The Usos? Not only that, not only would you have became the Tribal Chief, you would have inherit some kind of power that makes you like him.
The “him” he was referring to was Reigns, who Jimmy described as corrupted, egotistical, and manipulative. Fast forward two years, and Jey is starting to display those behaviors his brother alluded to, some of which were aimed directly at Jimmy.
Reigns had been out of action for nearly a month after being attacked by Bronson Reed and Bronson Breakker post-match at Clash in Paris. Before his absence, Reigns had started getting in Jey’s ear, suggesting that he should stop focusing so much on helping others and instead do things for himself. Reigns even used his signature slogan, “Smash Em All”, and Uso replied with one word, “Yeet.”
The OTC returned this past week on Raw, helping The Usos defeat Reed and Breakker in a tornado tag-team match. Following the battle, Reigns and Jey would embrace in the center of the ring, as Jimmy looked on (somewhat in disgust). They would once again exchange signature phrases, while making it clear that they were the only ones who mattered.
Uso seems to have made some decisions regarding his pathway back towards the top of the mountain. There is perhaps one burning question, however, which is what does that entail exactly? During that in-ring embrace, Uso said to Reigns, “I don’t trust nobody.” Could he have perhaps meant that literally?
Before mending fences, Main Event Jey reminded Reigns of the mental, physical, and emotional damage that he caused to him during the Bloodline’s first go-around. While Uso was able to forgive and get back on the same page with his cousin, he surely did not forget. The same is probably true for his big brother Jimmy, who, regardless of intent, was in part the reason why Jey did not become the undisputed champion two years ago.
It will be interesting to see where Jey Uso’s story ultimately goes. He seems to be closer to Reigns than Jimmy as of now, but that could change in the coming weeks. Perhaps Jey’s pursuit of becoming a two-time World Heavyweight Champion will mean again saying goodbye to the Bloodline, closing the Uso Penitentiary, and leaving literally everyone behind.
