WWE Wrestlepalooza has come and gone, leaving a mess in its wake. WWE was ignoring two separate championships, just for the returning AJ Lee to waste a PLE spot with a mixed tag match. There was also John Cena getting buried by Brock Lesnar. The most shocking result was in the Women’s World Championship match, where Iyo Sky and Stephanie Vaquer fought over the vacant title.

WWE History

These two opponents have quite a difference in resumes. Sky was called the best women’s wrestler in the game today on the broadcast, and they’re right. The amount of skill it takes to get over as a babyface without being able to connect verbally with the crowd is insane. Getting over doesn’t make you a talented wrestler, but she managed to use her skills to get there.

There’s no denying Vaquer’s hot start to her WWE career. After winning two singles championships within months of joining NXT, she’s been a steady TV presence on the main roster since WrestleMania season. She’s also connected with the crowd without mic skill, but was it for the same reason as her opponent?

WWE Women’s World Championship

There’s no comparing these two talents. Vaquer seems to have gotten popular not for her wrestling but for her move, The Devil’s Kiss. This is her trademark move, where she slams an opponent’s head into the mat with her feet, showing off how little her outfits cover. It’s even creeped into commentary, with Booker T, despite being a married man, absolutely losing his mind every time.

WWE decided the Chilean star is ready, which is quite the leap of faith. Outside of the language barrier, Vaquer’s been on TV via the main roster steadily since June. Match listings are provided by The Internet Wrestling Database. While wanting a fresh face is understandable, there’s no ground to stand on to prove her worthiness.

This devalues the title by not ensuring its holder has earned their way up to that distinction. Since Vanquer’s first recorded appearance for NXT in November 2024, she’s won the NXT Women’s North American and World Championship, before earning the WWE Women’s World Championship last night. The road was short leading up to all of those, and didn’t have to grind as a champion for an extended period before moving on to another story.

End Of My WWE Rant

Time will tell if Vaquer can fill the boots of a champion, or if she turns out like the lady living in a show. She has work to do if she truly wants to be considered the face of the division. There are plenty of tenured, worthy challengers chomping at the bit, ready to knock her to the bottom rung of the ladder, which is where she should have started anyway.
