2025 may only be halfway done, but it’s already a year to remember for all Polish sports fans. Across all disciplines, athletes from Poland managed to achieve the unachievable and bring pride to their compatriots. So what were some of the most impressive of their feats?
When talking about the biggest Polish sports accomplishments of 2025, June 16, the day of this year’s edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, cannot be forgotten. The French race is sometimes called the most important motorsports event, and many great drivers would do anything to succeed in it. For a few Polish drivers and one Polish team, the dream became a reality.
Robert Kubica’s history with motorsports is as heartbreaking as it is inspiring. He was a great talent in Formula One, but an off-season rally incident left him with terrible injuries that forced him to move away from motorsports for quite a while. Despite everything, he returned to F1 and then switched his focus to endurance racing.
He had come close to winning Le Mans, first in the lower categories and, in 2024, even in the main classification, but always came just short of getting the coveted victory. In 2025, he beat the odds. While many would have expected one of the two main Ferrari contenders, #50 and #51, before the privately backed AF Corse #83 ever could, it was the yellow car that crossed the finish line first.
This wasn’t the only Polish success story in this year’s edition of the race. The LMP2 category was won by Inter Europol #43, a car manufactured by the Polish team Inter Europol Competition. It was their third consecutive victory in the category. What’s even more, one of the three drivers of the #43 was a Pole, Jakub Śmiechowski. The teams second car didn’t make it onto the podium, but finished only a few places behind.
While the men’s Polish national football team didn’t put their best foot forward this year, some of its players managed to achieve great success with their clubs. The two most obvious examples are Wojciech Szczęsny and Robert Lewandowski, both of whom were crucial parts of FC Barcelona’s impressive season.
The Catalan team didn’t win the Champions League, having been knocked out after a gruelling semi-final against Inter Milan, but they did achieve a lot throughout the season. They secured the La Liga crown, won the Copa del Rey, and triumphed in the Supercopa de España. None of the victories would have been possible without Lewandowski, who scored 46 goals throughout the season, and Szczęsny, who saved the team after Marc-André ter Stegen’s unexpected injury.
But the Spanish stars were not the only Polish football players who achieved something impressive this season. While Inter Milan did not win the Champions League finale, they did manage to reach it, which is a feat of its own. There are two men from Poland among their players, Piotr Zieliński and Nicola Zalewski. They both put up some great performances throughout the season. The same can be said about Jakub Kiwior, a Polish player who can be found in Arsenal’s starting 11.
All in all, that makes five Polish footballers in the Champions League semifinals and two in the final. While this might sound like rookie numbers for countries like Spain or England, it’s a step in the right direction for Poland.
Any piece talking about Polish sports successes of 2025 has to mention the very recent Wimbledon victory of Iga Świątek. The young tennis player has been struggling in the past months, having been mentally defeated by unfounded cheating allegations. She has also never previously won a Grand Slam on the grass, so many people didn’t treat her as a serious contender for the tournament.
In the end, not only did she win it, but she did so with style. In the final game, Świątek faced Amanda Anisimova and defeated her in two sets, both of which saw a score of 6-0. It was the first time since before the World Wars that any player managed to win the Wimbledon finale with such a dominant score.
With her win, Świątek completed the feat of winning a Grand Slam on all three major surfaces, grass, hard, and clay. She is the eighth woman to ever do so. She is also the second youngest female player this century to complete a Surface Slam, beaten only by the incredible Serena Williams. All in all, the Polish tennis star once again showed why she is considered one of the best there is, bringing immense pride to he hearts of her compatriots.
These are only some of the successes that Polish athletes managed to achieve in 2025. Writing down all of them would take pages upon pages. Even with such a small sample, one thing is clear: if you ever find yourself competing against a Pole, beware. They shouldn’t be written off easily.
