Jr Motorsports is making history by attempting to run in the Daytona 500 for the first time ever! This is a huge deal for the team, owned by Dale Earnhardt Jr. and his sister Kelley Earnhardt Miller, as they’re stepping up from the Xfinity Series to the NASCAR Cup Series.
They’ve partnered with Grammy-winning artist Chris Stapleton, who’s sponsoring the car through his Traveller Whiskey brand. The team has entered Justin Allgaier, the reigning Xfinity Series champion with Jr Motorsports, to drive the No. 40 Chevrolet.

To make it into the Daytona 500, Allgaier will have to qualify through either speed or one of the qualifying races. With 36 spots guaranteed to teams with full-time charters, Jr Motorsports will be competing for one of the remaining four spots.
The Earnhardt Family Daytona International Speedway Traditions
The Earnhardt family has a rich history at Daytona International Speedway, with numerous triumphs and tribulations.
Ralph Earnhardt. – competed at Daytona International Speedway. According to his NASCAR statistics, Earnhardt participated in eight races at Daytona, with his best finish being third place. He also drove for renowned car owners like Cotton Owens and Lee Petty in the Grand National circuit, which included several races at Daytona.
Ralph was one of the pioneers of NASCAR. He was a member of the inaugural class of the NASCAR Hall of Fame’s “Pioneers” group, which recognizes individuals who contributed to the sport’s early development. He was a respected driver and mechanic, known for his toughness and perseverance. As the father of Dale Earnhardt Sr. and the grandfather of Dale Earnhardt Jr., he played a significant role in shaping the Earnhardt family’s racing legacy.
Dale Earnhardt Sr.- Earnhardt Sr. won the Daytona 500 in 1998, his first and only victory in the Great American Race. He won 76 races and tied for the most (7) championships ever. He was known as the “Intimidator” for his fierce style of racing and will to win.

He had 34 top-10 finishes at Daytona, including 13 top-5s. In addition, Earnhardt dominated the Gatorade Twin 125 qualifying races, with an impressive 12 wins. These victories showcase his exceptional skill and consistency at the iconic Daytona track.
Dale Earnhardt Jr.- Earnhardt Jr. won the Daytona 500 twice, in 2004 and 2014. He had 20 top-10 finishes at Daytona, including 10 top-5s. Jr. was a consistent performer at Daytona, with a strong average finish of 12.7.
Kelley Earnhardt Miller– Kelley, Dale Jr.’s sister, has been instrumental in managing JR Motorsports, the family’s NASCAR team. While she hasn’t competed at Daytona as a driver, she’s played a key role in the team’s success, including their Xfinity Series victories.
Other Earnhardt Family Members- Kerry Earnhardt, Dale Sr.’s eldest son, competed in the NASCAR Cup Series and Xfinity Series, including several starts at Daytona.
Jeffrey Earnhardt, Dale Sr.’s grandson, has competed in the NASCAR Cup Series and Xfinity Series, including starts at Daytona.

This is a high-pressure situation for Jr Motorsports, but the team is feeling optimistic. Earnhardt Jr. has warned his team that he and his sister will be keeping a close eye on everything, from the moment the car is unloaded at Daytona Beach International Speedway.
