Tarik Skubal isn’t the type of player you want to trade. The Detroit Tigers’ position in the American League Central could force the organization to consider that possibility anyway.
The Tigers entered the final days of May sitting well behind the Cleveland Guardians in the division race, and one of baseball’s most dominant pitchers is suddenly becoming the center of trade speculation.
Whenever an elite pitcher becomes available, contenders across baseball start paying attention. Skubal isn’t just another starting pitcher. The two-time Cy Young winner is the type of pitcher capable of changing an entire postseason race.
If Detroit decides to listen to offers, these three teams should be first in line.

3. Seattle Mariners
The Seattle Mariners have spent years assembling a roster capable of making a deep postseason run.
The organization has developed young talent, built a strong pitching foundation, and positioned itself as a consistent contender. A World Series appearance, however, remains elusive. Skubal would immediately raise Seattle’s championship ceiling.
Adding another ace to an already talented rotation would create one of the most dangerous pitching staffs in baseball. A playoff series featuring Skubal alongside the Mariners’ current arms would become a nightmare matchup for opposing lineups.
Skubal grew up in the Seattle area, making a potential reunion one of the most compelling storylines of the trade deadline. That hometown connection adds another intriguing piece to the puzzle.
The Mariners have waited long enough to think small. A franchise still searching for its first World Series title should aggressively pursue every opportunity to improve.

2. New York Yankees
Championship expectations never disappear in New York. Aaron Judge remains the face of the franchise, but the New York Yankees understand a simple reality: October success is usually built on elite pitching.
The Bombers possess enough offensive firepower to compete with anyone. Recent performances have reinforced why the Yankees remain one of the most dangerous teams in baseball, a theme we explored in Yankees Keep Finding New Ways To Win In Big Moments.
Another frontline starter could be the difference between a playoff appearance and a championship parade. Skubal would immediately strengthen New York’s postseason rotation while providing valuable insurance against injuries and inconsistency.
The Yankees also possess the financial resources and prospect capital necessary to compete for a player of Skubal’s caliber. Few organizations are better positioned to make a blockbuster move. A pitcher capable of dominating playoff lineups belongs on every contender’s radar, but New York has more reason than most to pick up the phone.

1. Los Angeles Dodgers
No team makes more sense than the Los Angeles Dodgers. The defending champions enter every season focused on one goal: winning the World Series.
Championship organizations rarely become satisfied with their current roster, and the Dodgers have built a dynasty by consistently pursuing opportunities to improve.
Fans can follow Los Angeles’ upcoming divisional showdown in our Dodgers Vs Diamondbacks Series: Full Schedule, Pitching Matchups, Storylines And How To Watch hub.
A trade for Skubal would give Dave Roberts another elite weapon for October.
Imagine a postseason rotation featuring Tarik Skubal, Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Blake Snell. Few teams in baseball history could match that level of frontline pitching talent.
The National League already runs through Los Angeles. Adding Skubal would make the Dodgers even more difficult to catch.

End Of My Tarik Skubal Rant
Skubal is not the type of player teams find available every summer.
Seattle would acquire the hometown ace capable of elevating an already dangerous roster. New York would add another championship-caliber arm to a team built to win immediately. Los Angeles would create a postseason rotation few organizations could realistically match.
Detroit may not want to move its franchise pitcher. The trade market may force the Tigers to consider the possibility anyway. If Skubal becomes available, contenders across baseball will line up with offers. The Dodgers, Yankees, and Mariners should be leading that line.
