The Miami Dolphins are in line for a world of hurt this upcoming season. Their offense will be nearly completely turned over, including a new head coach, QB1, WR1, and WR2. Furthermore, their defense is far too inferior to carry a team, finishing 22nd last year. It’s impossible to replace that much talent in one draft and offseason, so new quarterback Malik Willis will have little to no weapons available for these 2026-27 NFL power rankings.
After moving on from quarterback Kyler Murray’s seven-year tenure, the Arizona Cardinals did little to address the issue. Their top three options consist of career-journeymen Gardner Minshew and Jacoby Brissett, or rookie draft pick Carson Beck. The team signed running back Tyler Allgeier in the offseason, then surprised all with their third-overall selection in the 2026 NFL Draft. Despite running back being near the bottom of the to-do list, the Cardinals selected RB Jeremiyah Love from Notre Dame. Last year’s 19th-ranked offense looks worse, and the 27th-ranked defense has barely been addressed.
The New York Jets dated the field and made their way back around to their failed ex-quarterback, Geno Smith. They had promising selections in the draft, but how much can they be expected to improve the second-worst defense and fourth-worst offense? With an average scoring margin of -12 PPG and a slew of early draft picks, this season is destined for growing pains, at best.
The Tennessee Titans’ elite defense fell off a cliff last year. Their 31st-ranked offense still has a depressing quarterback room for these 2026-27 NFL power rankings, consisting of Cam Ward, Mitch Trubisky, and Will Levis. Grabbing WR Carnell Tate from Ohio State with their fourth overall pick is a promising selection; it’s just a shame the ball still needs to go through a quarterback on that roster.
Don’t let the Carolina Panthers’ playoff appearance inflate their value; they’re still a bad team in a terrible division. No team in the NFC South finished last season with a winning record. Their negative points differential wouldn’t have made it in any other division. In addition, the team failed to address most of their glaring needs in the draft, and is likely the least improved team in that weak division for these 2026-27 NFL power rankings.
The hype is undeniable around the Las Vegas Raiders and their first-overall draft pick, quarterback Fernando Mendoza, from Indiana. While understandable, he’s still working with last year’s league-worst offense, which also tied for the fewest wins. Their A-grade draft also aimed to address the defense, which allowed 25.4 PPG last season. Highlighted by S Treydan Stukes, from Arizona, and EDGE Keyron Crawford, from Auburn, the team drafted seven defensive prospects with nine remaining picks. The issues are too big for a rookie class to immediately fix, especially in an AFC West loaded with playoff contenders.
Quarterback Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders burst onto the scene two seasons ago, going off for 3,568 passing and 891 rushing yards in his rookie campaign. Playing in only seven games, injuries derailed Daniels’ growth last year. The receivers around him have been slowly dwindling as well – while Terry McLaurin is a reliable option, his ceiling as a WR1 is predictable. As detrimental a turn of events as that is, the defense dropped to the worst in the league. Their seventh-overall draft pick of LB Sonny Styles from Ohio State will help the cause, but the Commanders’ draft was underwhelming after that.
The Cleveland Browns have maintained a strong defense since the mess caused by the guaranteed contract given to quarterback Deshaun Watson. The offense took a baby step last year, and the team’s A-grade draft class heavily favored that side of the ball. In the first 39 picks, the Browns added Utah OT Spencer Fano, Texas A&M WR KC Concepcion, and Washington WR Denzel Boston. While they have some proving to do in these 2026-27 NFL power rankings, it’s been a while since fans had any hope on that side of the ball.
The Pittsburgh Steelers re-signed quarterback Aaron Rodgers on a one-year deal and brought in his former head coach from his stay with the Green Bay Packers, Mike McCarthy. There may be familiarity and comfort, but that’s not enough to compensate in these 2026-27 NFL power rankings. The roster is very similar to last year, just another year older, and that’s not a good thing. With the 26th-ranked defense and 25th-ranked offense last season, this year doesn’t bode any better for the Steelers.
The Indianapolis Colts had a hot run last season, including flashes from new quarterback Daniel Jones. Take a step back, and injuries were part of it, but they nonetheless had a losing record and missed the playoffs. The team now hopes Jones can return from a torn Achilles tendon in December. Even if he does, and even if last season’s flashes weren’t a fluke, it’s still last year’s 23rd-ranked defense. Having not drafted until 53rd overall, they don’t have the slew of high-end prospects on the way that some teams do.
The Houston Texans feasted on the NFC South last season, going 5-1. Combine that with the league’s best defense, and it looks like a playoff team. The offense truly is the ceiling for this team, and it’s had the same issues for years. The Texans enter the 2026-27 Regular Season with what FTN Fantasy grades as the 30th-ranked offensive line. Quarterback CJ Stroud is destined for another year of sacks and rushed decisions in these 2026-27 NFL power rankings.
The New York Giants’ young core started to mesh last year, showing promise before injuries derailed the season. Quarterback Jaxson Dart, running back Cam Skattebo, and wide receiver Malik Nabers highlight the young offensive core, and the team is putting reliable pieces around them. The defense leaves something to be desired, but they certainly addressed it in the 2026 NFL Draft. Fans hope draft picks like the fifth overall pick, LB Arvelle Reese from Ohio State, and the 37th-overall pick, CB Colton Hood from Tennessee, can lift the floor of their 28th-ranked defense.
The Atlanta Falcons have underdelivered on expectations for years. They drafted quarterback Michael Penix Jr. to be the savior in 2024, but he already seems like a bust. The disappointment doesn’t end there, with the firing of head coach Raheem Morris after only two seasons. Brought in as a defensive specialist, they improved last season but still only managed the 15th-ranked defense. Kevin Stefanski will try to increase production with more or less the same roster in these 2026-27 NFL power rankings.
The Minnesota Vikings have all the parts of a playoff threat, outside the most important one, the quarterback. The defense finished last season ranked third, and they’ve got multiple desirable weapons in both the pass and run. The problem stems from the lost gamble of QB JJ McCarthy. They brought in the cast-off Kyler Murray on a league minimum for some competition, and the Vikings’ ceiling is whatever they can get from those two in these 2026-27 NFL power rankings.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers let the playoff sand slip through their fingers last season. Finishing .500 against teams in their own division, just one more win against three beatable teams could have changed the story drastically. Despite missing the postseason, they had the best point differential in the NFC South and were one of three teams to tie for the best record. First round draft pick, EDGE Rueben Bain Jr. from Miami, elevates their middle-of-the-pack defense. Losing four of the last five games last year, quarterback Baker Mayfield gets the opportunity to prove that it was just a slip-up in these 2026-27 NFL power rankings.
The New Orleans Saints have the most excitement of teams in the NFC South for these 2026-27 NFL power rankings. They kept their top asset, wide receiver Chris Olave, at the trade deadline, and rookie quarterback Tyler Shough found his way down the stretch. Shough and friends won four of their last five, including five touchdowns to just one interception. The team entered the draft with plans to build around him, including drafting wide receiver Jordyn Tyson from Arizona State with their eighth overall selection.
The Chicago Bears’ offense shocked the world by leading the team to an NFC North title last season. Considering the stout division and 29th-ranked defense, only time will tell if it was a true emergence of quarterback Caleb Williams or a lucky one-off year. After seven drafts without a first-round defensive selection, they finally broke that mold by selecting S Dillon Thienman from Oregon. One safety will not fuel a rocket ship, but it certainly helps the ground floor in these 2026-27 NFL power rankings.
The Baltimore Ravens’ defense was porous last season, as expected, but the offense also struggled, especially without quarterback Lamar Jackson. At the end of the 2025-26 regular season, they had an average scoring margin of just +1.5 PPG. The AFC North is there for the taking – who’s going to take it, and who’s going to stay healthy in these 2026-27 NFL power rankings?
The Cincinnati Bengals’ offense has a stupendous amount of elite talent on its roster, but is it fair to expect a team to score 30 every week? That’s what their second-to-last-ranked defense asked of them last season. The Bengals traded their first‑round pick for Giants DT Dexter Lawrence, and used their second pick on Texas A&M EDGE Cashius Howell. Hopefully, this is enough to keep quarterback Joe Burrow happy, who’s wasted MVP-caliber seasons, only to miss the playoffs.
After a few years of dominance and success, the Philadelphia Eagles took a step back last season. Don’t mistake this as a collapse, but there are concerns both on and off the field. Wide receiver AJ Brown whines until the team pads his stats at the expense of the game, and they’re slipping in various statistical leaderboards. Yes, they finished 11-6, but a repeat of the 24th-ranked offense in an approved NFC East takes them out of Super Bowl favoritism.
The dynasty may have ended when the Kansas City Chiefs missed the postseason last year, but some of the underlying stats and issues leave a ray of hope for fans. The offense was largely the issue last year, but quarterback Patrick Mahomes tied for his fewest games played since becoming the starter in 2018. The defense was still top ten, and they traded up to get their guy in this year’s draft, including three defensive studs in the opening two rounds. After losing a couple of key pieces, they selected CB Mansoor Delane from LSU, DT Peter Woods from Clemson, and EDGE R Mason Thomas from Oklahoma in those two rounds.
Quarterback Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars finally outperformed expectations last season. His career-high 38 combined touchdowns led them to an AFC South title. Combine that with a defense that allowed less than 20 PPG, and the Jaguars are a threat in these 2026-27 NFL power rankings. Their C-grade draft class leaves something to be desired, so fans will wait and see if internal progression can elevate them into the truly elite.
Quarterback Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys’ offense rocketed up the standings last season, all the way to second in the NFL. The defense, however, struggled and finished 30th. Their A-grade draft immediately drops game-changers into the lineup for these 2026-27 NFL power rankings. The Cowboys picked up S Caleb Downs, from Ohio State, and EDGE Malachi Lawrence, from UFC, in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft.
Things fell apart down the stretch for the Green Bay Packers last season, finishing with four straight losses. They lost quarterback Jordan Love at the start of that skid, but still made the postseason. Love’s numbers looked strong, but despite winning most stats, Chicago’s third‑down dominance decided the Wild Card game. Can the Packers return healthy and consistent for these 2026-27 NFL power rankings?
The offense may have ghosted them in the Wild Card round, but the Los Angeles Chargers had a promising regular season. Their top-five defense kept them in most games, and while the offensive ceiling is low for these 2026-27 NFL power rankings, the floor isn’t far below that either. Could the addition of Mike McDaniel as offensive coordinator take it to the next level?
The Detroit Lions may have finished last in the powerful NFC North, but that doesn’t tell the whole story. Two of the other three teams finished with an identical record, and the Lions had the best point differential. If the Lions had a better pass defense or even managed to win one more in-division game, the playoffs would have been much different. Their B-grade draft addresses most issues. The Lions drafted OT Blake Miller from Clemson to take pressure off of quarterback Jared Goff, then went EDGE, LB, CB, to address the defense.
The San Francisco 49ers need to find a way to stay healthy this season. Per Rotowire, they lost the fourth-most man games, while coming second in man games lost per player. Despite the hurdles, they still finished 12-5 in an NFC West with two other Super Bowl threats. Health alone should assist their 7th-ranked offense and 20th-ranked defense in these 2026-27 NFL power rankings.
With a top-five defense and top-ten offense, the Denver Broncos have emerged as a threat on both sides of the ball. They lost QB Bo Nix during the postseason, but adding WR Jaylen Waddle gives another weapon for these 2026-27 NFL power rankings.
The 2025-26 AFC Champion New England Patriots took a massive step forward last year. A third-ranked offense and eighth-ranked defense led them to their first AFC East title since 2019. In addition, they’ve made numerous moves to improve for these 2026-27 NFL power rankings. The Patriots drafted Utah OT Caleb Lomu in Round One, and added WR Romeo Doubs to support QB Drake Maye and the offense. They also drafted EDGE Gabe Jacas from Illinois in the second round, improving on both sides of the ball after a successful season.
The Los Angeles Rams rode the league’s best offense all the way to the NFC Conference Championship game, losing a wild one-possession affair. Their 17th-ranked defense was ultimately the weak link, but it’s been steadily improving for a couple of seasons. Can the natural progression of their defense be enough to take the to the promised land?
The Buffalo Bills’ offense has been dangerous under quarterback Josh Allen for a while, but is their seventh-ranked defense surprising? They selected EDGE TJ Parker from Clemson and CB Davison Igbinosun from Ohio State in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft to help the defense. They also acquired veteran wide receiver DJ Moore for these 2026-27 NFL power rankings. This might be the best team, on paper, going into a season for Allen that he’ll ever see, and it’s time to break through.
The 2026 Super Bowl Champion Seattle Seahawks are beasts in line for another dominant season in these 2026-27 NFL power rankings. They were the only team with a double-digit average scoring margin, and are returning most of those pieces. They are, however, missing one of the biggest pieces, running back Kenneth Walker III. They hope to get value from first‑round draft pick RB Jadarian Price, out of Notre Dame, in these 2026-27 NFL power rankings.
